A Real Yokohama Day Trip: Cup Noodles Museum and Sankeien Garden
A real Yokohama day trip: Cup Noodles Museum (500 yen, design your own cup for 500 more) and Sankeien Garden (900 yen). Real prices, real photos.

Yokohama sits close enough to central Tokyo that it works as a full day out without needing to change hotels, and two stops from our own visits there cover very different kinds of Japan: a museum built around instant ramen, and a centuries old garden built from relocated historic buildings. Neither is expensive, and knowing the real prices ahead of time makes it easy to budget the whole day.
Cup Noodles Museum: 500 yen, plus 500 if you want to design your own cup
General admission is 500 yen for adults, free for high school age and under. That gets you the full museum: the instant noodle history exhibits, a noodle themed food court (Noodles Bazaar, samples of ramen styles from around the world), and the chance to watch the whole space dedicated to Momofuku Ando, the inventor of instant ramen. Ando developed the original Chicken Ramen in a small shed behind his house in Ikeda, Osaka Prefecture, in 1958, then followed it up with Cup Noodles in 1971, the version that actually made instant ramen a global product rather than just a Japanese one. The museum leans into that story rather than skipping past it, which makes it feel less like a corporate showroom than the name suggests.
The part everyone actually goes for is My CUPNOODLES Factory: 500 yen per cup, you design your own container art, pick a soup base and four toppings from the options available, and watch it get sealed and packaged like the real product. Grab your numbered ticket for this the moment you walk in, weekend slots sell out by Friday afternoon, and weekday mornings between 10:00 and noon are the least crowded window if you have flexibility.

Sankeien Garden: 900 yen for something completely different
A short trip across the city, Sankeien is a large traditional Japanese garden built around relocated historic buildings, teahouses, a pagoda, and farmhouses brought in from other parts of Japan, set among ponds and seasonal foliage. Admission is 900 yen for adults, 700 yen for seniors 65 and up, and 200 yen for anyone under 15. We went in autumn and had a wooden bridge and a full pavilion practically to ourselves for photos, quiet in a way that’s hard to find at Tokyo’s more famous gardens.

A real Klook listing exists for Sankeien too, direct entry admission booked ahead of time rather than paying at the gate:
Sankeien Garden admission on Klook, and the same ADAMANDLINDSKLOOK code above applies here too once your Klook cart clears $50 across both bookings.
The free bonus: the illuminated Yokohama sign
Near the waterfront, an illuminated “YOKOHAMA” sign lights up at night, a straightforward, free photo stop if you’re already down by the harbor after dinner. It costs nothing and takes five minutes, worth the detour if you’re walking that direction anyway.

Getting there from Tokyo
Two real options depending on where you’re starting:
- JR Tokaido Line from Tokyo Station: about 28 minutes, 483 yen.
- Tokyu Toyoko Line from Shibuya: about 25 to 30 minutes, 270 to 309 yen, the cheaper option if you’re already on the west side of the city.
Cup Noodles Museum is a short walk from Minato Mirai or Bashamichi Station; Sankeien Garden is far enough out that a bus or taxi from Yokohama Station makes more sense than walking.
What the day actually cost
For our family, museum admission plus a round of custom cups, and garden admission with the kids at the discounted under-15 rate, came in well under what a single ticket to some of Tokyo’s bigger attractions costs, for two genuinely different stops in one day. Skip the custom cup experience and it’s cheaper still, general admission alone gets you the whole museum. Pair the two the way we did and you get a day that’s part food history, part traditional garden, with almost nothing in common between them beyond both being in Yokohama, which is exactly what makes the city worth a full day rather than a quick stopover on the way to somewhere else.
